What happens
Detective Danny Clover investigates the murder of Sergeant Gordon Ellis, who was shot and killed during the escape of prisoner Tommy Mann. Danny suspects that Ellis's death was no accident and that powerful forces orchestrated Mann's breakout, leading him to confront the wealthy and mysterious Mr. Faulkner and his attorney, and ultimately to seek out Tommy Mann's mother in the tenements where both men grew up.
Broadway and Times Square in New York City, from police headquarters to the wealthy estates overlooking the East River to the tenement neighborhoods where the characters grew up.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
