What happens

Detective Danny Clover is approached by Peter Daly, a convention visitor from Arkansas, who reports being blackmailed by a red-haired woman named Rita Rondell over a compromising photograph taken at a nightclub. When Clover investigates the woman's apartment, he discovers her dead, and must determine whether the distraught Daly—who expressed murderous anger toward her—is responsible or merely an unfortunate suspect.

New York City, primarily the 47th Street Station House, a nightclub called the High-Hat Club, and Rita Rondell's apartment

Characters: Detective Danny Clover, Peter Daly, Ben Cotton, Mrs. Daly, Rita Rondell, Art Smith, Sergeant Tom

Listen for: The classic blackmail scheme gone wrong, with Clover's investigation leading from a simple extortion case to a murder mystery and the question of Daly's guilt or innocence.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
