What happens
Detective Danny Clover investigates the knife-murder of Mary Deming, a young woman found dead in her room at Mrs. Branch's boarding house. With little to go on except a high school yearbook, Clover begins tracking down four people who were close to Mary during their school days, starting with football star George Ferris and gentle Lillian Hess.
New York City, 1950. Mrs. Branch's boarding house, a department store, and the homes of high school friends.
Characters: Danny Clover, Mrs. Branch, Mary Deming, Mugerman, George Ferris, Lillian Hess
Listen for: The narrator's evocative descriptions of Broadway's seedy underbelly and the victim's mysterious past; the detective's methodical questioning of Mary's old schoolmates, each revealing different aspects of the dead woman's troubled life.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
