What happens
Jim Hudson, a married man, carries on an affair with Sally James, who wants a settled life with him. Hudson arranges a weekend at a cottage called the Beaches in Pevensey Bay, and before leaving London he buys a carving knife and a small saw from a shop near the station. The episode is set in London and presented as part of The Black Museum, a series drawn from the files of the Criminal Investigation Department of the London Police, with Orson Welles as narrator. The story follows the couple to the cottage, where their quarrel over the future of their relationship grows heated, and then turns to a private detective who is hired by Hudson's wife. Hudson's Gladstone bag, which is later shown to police, becomes central to the investigation.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
