What happens

Barry Craig, a confidential investigator, discovers a dead man in his office—a small nervous stranger who had been looking for him earlier in the day. The body has no identification, the labels stripped from his clothes, and he was killed by a knife wound to the heart. Someone is clearly anxious about Craig's involvement, and when a gunman opens fire in Craig's office, it becomes clear that whoever wants Craig dead is willing to strike again.

Characters: Barry Craig, Willie, Jake, Lieutenant Rogers, John Doe

Listen for: The opening narration about murderers and their books, Willie's banter about the food at his diner, Jake the elevator operator's dry observations, and the tense discovery of the body in Craig's lonely office corner

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
