What happens
Barry Craig is drawn into a case when fellow investigator Max Massey asks him to locate Anatol Barbour, a recluse rug dealer who disappeared fifteen years ago. Craig tracks down Barbour living under an assumed name on an island off Long Island, only to discover the man has been murdered and staged as a suicide. Back in the city, Craig realizes that Massey's own office files have been deliberately burned, suggesting that Massey's client hired him not to find Barbour, but to have him killed.
Manhattan and Sackett Bay, Long Island, 1954
Characters: Barry Craig, Max Massey, Anatol Barbour/Belmar, Amar Surabi, Alan Merritt
Listen for: The contrast between the aging Max Massey's weariness and Craig's youthful energy; the atmospheric description of Belmar's Island and the discovery of the body; the revelation that the case was a murder setup from the start.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
