Mutual Broadcasting System presents This Is Jazz! This is Jazz's Radios Only Live presentation of authentic improvise New Orleans Jazz. The writer and narrator is Rudy Blanche, famous jazz critic and author of the recent book, Shining Cropping, a definitive colorful history of this American music.
Each week at this time he and his great jazz man bring you a solid half hour of superb improvise jazz and scenes from his history. So here is Rudy Blanche. Thanks, John, and here we are all set to go on the 34th session of this, this jazz.
Well, the All-Star Stompers are going to open today with a jazz classic that dates from way back in 1921. All the great bands have always played it, and it has been recorded scores of time.
Yet somehow, great players can always make it sound fresh and new every time by the spirit and the new ideas that they find to put into it. So we're going to give you our own version of the old favorite, Jasmy Blues.
You know the All-Star Thompers as one of the great jazz bands of history, but for the benefit of our new listeners, here's our All-Star lineup with each player answering the roll call,
Wild Bill Davison Cornette and Jimmy Archie Trombone, Edmund Hall-Clarenette, and Pops Foster Bass, Ralph Sutton-Piano, Danny Barker guitar, and Baby Dodd's drums. And now we're all set for one of those old New Orleans blues, the famous Clarence Williams composition, the Royal Garden Blues.
How does the World Series look to you guys from where you sit? Thank you, all you need is a ton of me.
How are you? Are we supposed to be playing jazz? Well, look who's here, our wandering producer Don Fredericks. Welcome back Don. Say that's a nice sundown, they must have a nice sunlamps out in California, huh?
