This is Lawrence Olivia. Today's play is adapted from some sequences chosen from Charles Dickens' immortal Pickwick paper. We've taken our title from perhaps the most famous trial in the history of fiction. And I myself shall be playing the role of that formidable sergeant of law, Sergeant Buzzfah.

So now, back we go through many loving years, to hear the case of Bardell versus Pickwick. Pickwick. Court called Hill August 28, 18, 30. Bartell against Pickwick. Let us take a moment to examine how such a strange circumstance could have arisen.

To anyone acquainted with the admirable regulation of Mr. Pickwick's mind, his appearance and behaviour that morning would have been most mysterious and under-contable. It was evident that something of great importance was in contemplation, but what that something was, not even Mrs. Bartell herself, had been enabled to discover.

Mrs. Bardell was his land lady. The relic and sole execrittrix of a deceased custom house officer. A comely woman of bustling manners and agreeable appearance, with a natural genius for cooking. The only other inmate of the house was Mrs. Bardell's little son.

It was about young master Bardell that Mr. Pickwick now inquired. Your little boy is a very long time gone, Mrs. Bardell. Why, took a long way to the barrister. So it is. Mrs. Bartel. Sir, do you think it a much greater expense to keep two people?

Then to keep one? Mr. Pickwick, what a question. Well, but do you? Depends. That depends on the person you know, Mr. Pickwick. And is that really true? But the person I have in my eye is a careful and saving person and has a great deal of sharpness which may be of material use to me.
