Always stop and think before you cross. These are the parts of the world where malaria is common and where a traveler runs the risk of a bite from infected mosquitoes. Even if you once lived in one of these countries, you may have lost any immunity after only a few years away and children born in Britain won't be immune at all.

So, before traveling to heart countries, ask your doctor about anti-malarial tablets. Beware malaria. If you're bitten or scratched or even licked by any animal when you're abroad, take no chances. It could have rabies. Wash the wound immediately and then get urgent medical aid.

If you wait until the symptoms of rabies appear, you've left it too late. Rabies kills. This new label, which I am proud to wear, has been awarded to me in recognition of my resistance to the dangers of cigarettes and matches.
