Backstreet, from the story by Fanny Hurst. Starring Martha Scott as Ray Smith and Charles Boye as Walter Saxil. Ray Smith tells our story. Most women must choose between several men in their lives. Not I. There never was any question for me.
Not from the very first moment we met. Not from the moment he smiled and said. Lucky for me, I hope. That was a long time ago, of course. A very long time ago. At the railroad station in Cincinnati, I'd take an ed porter down to the train.
You see, I worked in my stepmother's dry goods store and I did most of the buying. That's how I happened to know all those salesmen. Drummers, we used to call them in. And some of them were rather nice. Ed and I had been very good friends.
That's why I was seeing him all. Well, there's my train. Ray, are you sure you won't change your mind and write up to date with me? Oh, Ed, do I have to slap your face again?
It's still read from the last time. Oh, say, look who's getting off the train. Waller Saxo. Mr. Saxo. Oh, hello. Hello. How do you do? Oh, fine. Mr. Saxo, fine. Well, what brings you up here to Sensei?
Oh, just stopping over for a few hours. I'm going out on the Louisville boat tonight. Well, I'm going out right now. Well, goodbye Ray. Oh, I forgot. Mr. Saxo, meet Ray Smith. The sweetest little peach in Cincinnati.
