The huge country home is a sort of dream place. That is, except to Mrs. Whittle. It's no dream to her. It's more of a nightmare. Walter, I can't stand it any longer. Let's close up this morgue and move back to New York.

I'm homesick. Homesick? But darling, this is your home. Yes, and I'm sick of it. Oh, but sweetheart, why go back to the city? back to the city. It's so much healthier out here. No crowds, no noise, no fumes.

No servants. That's right. No sir. Huh? Did you say no servants? Exactly. The chauffeur cook left this morning. The chauffeur too? Why, he seemed very happy here. He was well paid, had plenty of time off to visit all the neighbors' maids. What they called him the lock and bar of Lake Bewe. Yes, and now he's a vulture at Vulte's.

Oh, well. I wouldn't worry about getting under servants. There must be thousands of chauffeurs and cooks who want jobs. You've just got to approach them with savoir fare. Not nowadays. You've got to sneak up on them with chloroform.

Oh, don't be silly, Vivian. I'm going into the city at once. And by the night, I'll get you a chauffeur and a cook. But as Mr. Hurdle soon finds out, servants are about as easy to get as nylons.
