The John Blackwell Case

Portions of the following are transcribed. As Richard Diamond, Private Detective. German Detective Agency.

Yeah. Mr. Diamond, I presume? Yes, and maybe no. Down up. I-I-I don't understand you. Yes, I'm Diamond, and you're not presuming on me, not if you're a client. Well, that's not what I mean. What is that object you're playing with?

This-this is a yo-yo. You make it go down up, round and down. See? Yes. Yes. But I came in on business, Mr. Diamond. I want to hire you. I'm gonna hire you. Just drop it like this.

Ah, nah. As a detective. Oh, well, a hundred a day in expenses and I throw in a yo-yo lesson's free. Give me the rest of time. Are you in a business? Do you have the hundred a day?

I do. I am. That's fine. Your name? Oh, I can't tell you that. Goodbye. You can't put that thing away. I have a terrible head. Oh, I don't know. It's not so bad. Carve it yourself.

Why are you insufferable? No, wait a minute. Until we've had a formal introduction, the word insufferable is your ticket for a new set of dentures. Now why don't we get formal and save your gums that lonely feeling?

I told you my name is not important. That, I believe, but let's kick it around anyway. Is that necessary? Look, look, you said you wanted to hire me. So either tell me your name or what you want me to do, or let me get back at my practicing.

I should find another detective, but you came highly recommended, so... All right. You can call me John's. Other wife? What? Forget it. Innocence on your briefcase, read JB. Oh, oh, that is. It's one I borrowed.
