51 The Peacock Screen (AFRS)

But does it suggest that is besides Shrimp Creole, Jean Le Fite, and the broad girth of the Mississippi rolling into the sea?

There are legends in New Orleans, strange legends, one of which you'll hear in a moment in the story of the peacock screen, starring Annabella as Yvette. When you hear it, you'll no doubt search the inner most recesses of your soul for the true meaning of the word, obsession.

The time is now, the place, glamorous New Orleans, and the girl, the girl. She is the lovely event, desired by many but in love with none. A situation which is proving most distressing to her voluptuous and eloquent maman and as our story opens, maman is propounding the many advantages of an early marriage.

Yvette, in a year you will be 24, almost an old maid, it is time to think very carefully. About marriage, mama? Oh, but I have thought of it. Oh, that is good. I was afraid you might still be drooling about Douglas Hayes, that one.

Oh, please, Mama, that's over. I should hope so. No money, no background and no good. He was very handsome, and he kissed me very nicely. Kisses are for fun. Not for food and a roof over the head.

You must be practical. Oh, Mama. No love? Oh, vet, Mama, teacher. Why do you not wear the brooch from Tony? He would be so pleased. Why should I please him? He has a lot of money and he is mad about you.

Oh, Mama. Always with you? The money is important. Wasn't you a great-grandfather? Oh, you great-great-grandfather, who was a parrot with your life, it's... Now that is beside the point. Has Tony said anything to you?
