Engagement Announced

Well, well, well, here's Mama Bloom's brood. It's Sunday morning in the Blume household. Mama and Papa have just finished breakfast.

Mama is carrying away the dishes and Papa is reading his paper. But he seems to be perturbed about something. Mama, mama, mama, I don't sure make them up. Let them sleep. It's after 12. Are they going to sleep all day?

What's the difference, Jack? It's fun, Dad. They don't have to go to Hawaii. Let them sleep. Just because it's Sunday, did they have to sleep all day? What difference does it make to you? You have to make breakfast ten times.

In the first place, I only have to make breakfast two times. And in the second place, maybe I like making breakfast. Make them get up and eat breakfast when I do. It wouldn't kill them.

A second breakfast is a terrible bother. What bother can it be to you if I cook the breakfast? Is this our best? Or anybody can have breakfast whenever they want it? Look, Jake, this is your business. The house is my business.

You run your department and I'll run my department. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mama, what time did they get in last night? to tell you the truth I don't know. How can you not know? The bedroom is a clock, Andy.

I didn't look at the clock. Didn't you hear them come in? Jake, you know never in my life did I go to sleep before the girls come in. Then you must know what time they came in.

Jake, I'll tell you a secret. Yeah. If they come in late, I know the next morning you're going to ask me what time did they come in. Yeah, yeah. And so that I shouldn't have to tell you a lie, I make it my business not to look at the clock.
