Canyon City Herald send to me, and every once in a while I'd get a hankering to go back, but I kept putting it off. Then one day something happened that made up my mind for me.

The Herald said pardon shot dead and his killer got away. I took the train to the nearest depot, bought a horse and started the three day ride across the desert to Canyon City. I guess it was about the middle of the second day the sun was out, was hot as blazes.
