Bats in the Belfry

And a bell tower. Bell towers are great for flying games like Tag and Hide and Seek. Billy who loved games hadn't learned to fly well yet, because all their brother Bobby and friends were all getting ready for that annual Halloween flight.

All of the young bats would swoop out over the city at dusk in a pale moonlight and chase each other across the sky. Billy really wanted to go. Halloween was so exciting. Please take me, Bobby!

He's pleaded with his older brother. You can't go until you learn how to fly! Bobby replied. Please, please, please, please, please! Billy Big. Okay. I'll try to teach you to fly. They begin flapping. Bobby flapped and fluttered.

Billy flapped and flopped and flapped and flopped again and again and again. He flaps so fast and hard it hurt. This isn't working, I'm frustrating. Bad steak break. I'm not a game of bat-tag. You be it, and chase us.

Billy could never say no to a game of bat-tag. And Bobby knew that chasing him and his friends around the tower was great practice for flapping. The bigger bats ran around and fluttered in the rafters, and then landed to wait for Billy to follow him.

Oh, again! We cheer. Billy spread his wings in determination. He was ready for the chase. He fluttered after them. Upon the rafters. Then across the rafters. Then up and up they went through the bell tower.

Circling the bells and laughing as they went. Fluttering and flapping. Flapping and fluttering. Until Billy Chase bobbing right out of the bell tower. Into the evening sky. I'm flying! The chair, Bobby and his friends flutter around Billy and celebration.
