Kendall, frontier gentleman. The tent had been set up on Main Street in the heart of what is known as Deadwood's Badlands District.
The last time I had seen it was two months earlier in Cheyenne, it was a gambling establishment belonging to a rather extraordinary woman who called herself Madame Burdie, to be exact L'iline Monty Burdie. Owing to the fact that during the war she had been a Confederate spy, she no longer used her real name, which I knew to be Belle Sitners.
It was mid-morning, a comparatively quiet hour in Deadwood as I strode toward the tent. Off to one side I saw the wagon that had been converted into a type of omnibus, which served as Miss Siddin's living quarters, complete with lace curtains and satin cushions.
