Destination Freedom. Listen, it's the Freedom Bell. Hey, the Freedom Bell, my friend. And this is Paul Revere, called back from the shadows for the sound of the Freedom Bell. To cry again, a warning, that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance.

Desternation Freedom with Paul Revere is presented by Station WMAQ in the interest of human freedom, the world over. Paul Revere is a symbol of warning, ready to ride down the skies to shout his alarm.

His destination now and forever. Freedom. Hey, our destination is freedom. But remember, freedom isn't an American invention. Throughout history, to the present, men have yearned and fought, sometimes in quiet, anonymous ways to be free.

So Michael Shipkoff, an honest, intelligent Bulgarian citizen, chose to fight. After World War II, he became a staff worker for the American Legation in Sophia. Then in August of 1949, Shipkop was arrested by the Bulgarian secret police and forced to sign a false confession of espionage and made to return to the American Legation as a spy

informer. Heh, that's what the Communist-dominated police thought. But Michael Shipkop had another idea. He composed a full record of the cruel torture inflicted by the secret police and asked that had been published if he was seized again. In February of 1950, Michael Shipkov was again seized and indicted by the secret police. And as he had wished, the United States

Department of State released a series of affidavits describing how his confession was obtained. That's my story for today. The revelation of cruelty employed by some men who desire to enslave their fellow men, so they might achieve their own sordid ambitions.

It's a story of heroic sacrifice, selfish, made in behalf of all men who seek freedom. Listen, as Michael Shipkopf tells his story. On leaving the Legation Building at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 1949, I bicycle down toward the tennis club in order to take a parcel and some money to my mother at eight
