Destination Freedom, dramatizations of the great democratic traditions of the Negro people, is brought to you by Station WMAQ as a part of the Pageant of History and of America's Own Destination Freedom. Out of the hard reality of their lives, the people of America built a body of songs and music that outlast and outshines any popular tune, and is today slowly coming into its own.

In a chapter entitled Help the Blind, Destination Freedom tells the story of one of the leading folk artist who lived the stories he learned to sing featuring his recorded voice. It is the story of the guitarist singer Josh White.

Is America to me a name, a man, the flag I see, a certain word, democracy? What is America?

To me, the house I'm living, the friends that I have found, the folks beyond the railroad, and the people all around. Yeah, sure. Sure. Sure, there's Josh White here here, and all that, that full of grapes right here.

Eh? From men who? Who's that? From men who? All the old traumas around here in Greenville know about what happened to Reverend White's bar. Uh-huh. And? Only. And that full of grapes down there, so as I can tell the folks here, what they done a little old Josh.

I used to run around here and the commerce says, store, swipe, and apple just like the other kids. Yeah, you should come in here and listen to records. Like we were sitting here listening to him.

All this had that sly, women's smile, that soft insinuating voice. You know, I remember little old George. All this headed, wired up in the chain gang. Lord, he didn't miss it for much. That was sad.
