What happens
Abbott and Costello presents a comedy in which Costello, newly elected sheriff of North Hollywood, is taken aback by the duties of the job. Abbott, playing the sensible deputy, lectures him on what a real sheriff must do, and the bluster quickly collapses into mock-heroic routines about Indians, a horse, and breakfast cereal. A succession of visitors brings complaints, including a rancher, Mrs. Niles, who fears cattle rustlers. Costello and Abbott ride out to her ranch, where the rival lawman Melonhead challenges them to a shootout, and the pair then track the rustlers' supposed leader, Cactus Pete, into a saloon. The episode is from the Abbott and Costello series, originally broadcast on 1946-04-25 on NBC and ABC, with Bud Abbott and Lou Costello in the leads.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
