What happens
Lou Costello and Bud Abbott's characters argue over a dog and a fee, and Costello hires Bert Gordon, the mad Russian, as his lawyer after Mrs. Niles accuses him of mistreating her pet. Abbott and Costello's comedy show, aired by NBC and ABC on December 30, 1943, presents the scene with Connie Haines and Ken Niles. Costello's dispute over Rover the dog escalates into a mock courtroom sequence, where Gordon's counsel and a series of absurd questions lead to a sentence, before the case is overturned. The comic dialogue relies on wordplay about money, days of work, and the dog's breeding and behavior.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
