What happens

Bud Abbott and Lou Costello star in this 1943 episode, first broadcast on November 18, 1943. Costello, eager to date singer Connie Haines, is told by Abbott to stop chasing girls, and he promises to do so. Haines agrees to go out with him if he can get her a pair of nylon stockings, which are scarce during the war. The two men set out to find them at a department store, where the search takes them through the elevator and into a rush for a single pair on sale. Joe Kirk and Elvia Allman also appear in the story, and Lucille Ball is introduced as a shopper who becomes part of the chase.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
