What happens
Bud Abbott and Luke Costello play old friends who fall out after Costello's rude behavior embarrasses Abbott at society gatherings. Costello insists he has been misunderstood, and the two trade insults over manners, vocabulary and a dinner party gone wrong. Abbott introduces Costello to the bandleader Skinny Ennis and to the singer Marilyn Maxwell, and Costello's attempts to impress them go badly. Abbott finally calls him incorrigible and walks away, leaving Costello to face a dreamlike court of record keepers. The series is Abbott and Costello, first broadcast on October 3, 1946 on NBC and ABC.
Los Angeles and surrounding Hollywood locations, including a society dinner party, a radio studio and a dream courtroom.
Characters: Bud Abbott, Luke Costello, Skinny Ennis, Marilyn Maxwell
Listen for: Costello's malapropisms, such as Abbott's exasperated correction of his made-up words, and the courtroom sequence in which Costello is judged on his good and bad deeds.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
