What happens
Bud Abbott and Lou Costello host their comedy variety program on ABC in Hollywood, broadcast on June 16, 1948. Costello boasts of his popularity with women, but his romantic mishaps and a failed attempt at painting and etching provide the comic material. Susan Miller, the program's singer, confronts Costello about his romantic activity. The two comedians then debate how to improve their show, and they decide to bring in guest Benny Rubin. Rubin and Costello then recruit audience members for stunts and prizes, which goes badly.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
