What happens
Abbott and Costello is a comedy program from the old-time radio era, aired on NBC and ABC on January 20, 1944, with Bud Abbott and Lou Costello in the leads. In this episode, Costello and Abbott's neighbour Gildersleeve, played by Harold Peary, trade boasts and insults, and their rivalry escalates over a neighbour's child, a BB gun, and a stray football. The two men agree to settle their argument with a football game, and the episode's first part follows the build-up to that match.
A neighbourhood street in the United States, where Costello and Abbott live next door to Gildersleeve and Mrs. Nile, with a shipyard and a backyard football field.
Characters: Lou Costello, Bud Abbott, Gildersleeve, Mrs. Nile, Hector, Tommy, Ken Niles, Connie Haines
Listen for: The running argument over who was the greater football player at college, and Costello's stubborn insistence on his version of events.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
