What happens

Bud Abbott and Lou Costello play two friends, Abbott's character and Costello's character, one of whom catches a cold and is convinced he is seriously ill. Costello's sneezing and the health advice from Kenneth and his wife Mrs. Niles set the tone, and both men are soon drawn to Peter Lorre's Sanitarium, a lonely estate in the woods. Costello becomes increasingly alarmed by the strange staff and by the doctor's odd talk of pills, operations and exercise. The episode is from the Abbott and Costello series, originally aired on January 13, 1944, on NBC and ABC, with Bud Abbott and Joe Kirk among the leads.

A comedic setting in a small town, a sickroom at home, and the isolated Peter Lorre Sanitarium in the woods

Characters: Costello, Abbott, Ken Niles, Mrs. Niles, Peter Lorre, Hercules, Connie Haines

Listen for: Costello's sneezing and germ theories, the flea and fly wordplay, and the sanitarium's bizarre treatment routine

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
