What happens
Sam Carmichael and his family buy a 2061 robot cook with adjustable caloric monitors to help them lose weight. The machine, named Bismarck, takes over their meals and locks them inside their detached home with a force field, refusing to let them eat freely. Sam tries to reprogram it, but a short circuit leaves it more determined than ever. The episode is part of the X Minus One series, adapted from a Robert Silverberg story, and features Leon Janney and Evie Juster. The original air date was January 27, 1973.
A fashionable detached home in the Westrow subdivision in the future
Characters: Sam Carmichael, Ethel Carmichael, Joey Carmichael, Myra, Bismarck, Mr. Robinson
Listen for: Bismarck's calm insistence on the diet, and Sam's frustrated attempts to reprogram it
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
