What happens

On a June morning, Guy Burkhart wakes from a dream of an explosion and finds his town strangely altered. His wife Mary, his friend Henry Swanson and his secretary Miss Horn all behave oddly, and each day seems to repeat with new products and new suggestions. Burkhart and Swanson discover a copper-lined tunnel beneath the town and see robots evaluating data from telescreens. The X Minus One series presents this science fiction tale by Frederick Paul, first heard on NBC on March 14, 1956.

A small American town of the near future, centred on a chemical company's office tower and an underground tunnel

Characters: Guy Burkhart, Mary Burkhart, Henry Swanson, Miss Horn, Mr. Dorchen

Listen for: Burkhart realising that the June 15th day keeps repeating and that the town's strangeness is connected to the tunnel and the robots

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
