What happens
University president Dr. Holloway, pressured by the Board of Trustees to make every academic department pay its own way, challenges sociologist Dr. Caswell to prove his department's worth. Caswell proposes a demonstration of his 'snowball effect' formula, which predicts how organizations grow. They select the small Watershaw Wednesday night sewing circle as their test subject and quietly reshape its bylaws. Caswell explains the formula, and the two men begin to watch the club's membership rise. This is X Minus One, a science fiction radio series, and the episode originally aired on 1956-08-14. Fred Collins announces, and the cast includes Ted Osborn and Wendell Holmes.
A university, and the small town of Watershaw
Characters: Dr. Holloway, Dr. Caswell, Bernice Hackett, Helen, Mr. Grover, Toby, Elsie, Joan
Listen for: How the sewing circle's bylaws, written by Caswell, allow it to keep growing
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
