What happens

Professor Malcolm and a Nuclear Institute team warn the government that a new star will make the sun explode in about two weeks, ending the world. Working in secret, the professor turns to a scientist named Gornick to find a way to save the human race. Their plan involves shrinking life to microscopic size, so that civilizations can develop and endure inside a single drop of water. The story follows the drop's inhabitants as they grow, study their own origins, and face a dangerous attempt to pierce the surface film that encloses their world. The broadcast is an X Minus One adaptation of a James Blish story, first heard in 1956.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
