What happens
On a generations-long starship, the young superior Criper is assigned a mate, Aylen, and his attendant Riker begins to doubt the ship's rigid schedule. Riker discovers that Aylen was once a child hidden from the nursery, and a sudden change in the ship's engine sound and the appearance of a large star stir unease among the crew. Riker, fearing the ship's rules are a lie, reads a forbidden book that reveals the ship's true history. X Minus One presents The Sense of Wonder, adapted from a Galaxy Science Fiction story by Milton Lesser, first broadcast on April 24, 1956, with James Monks, Bill Quinn, Edwin Jerome, Vera Allen, Rita Lloyd, Joe DeSantis and Dick Hamilton in the cast.
A vast starship on a voyage of 10,000 years, where the people live by a fixed schedule and the ship is their entire world.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
