What happens

On the Moon, a research station crew is about to be relieved after eighteen months, and the men talk eagerly about their homecomings. Chapman, the pilot who volunteered to stay behind on his first trip, is the only one who has been there longer. When the relief ship arrives, its captain asks Chapman to stay on as director of the lunar laboratories, offering more money and a title. Chapman refuses, and the story turns to the fate of a lost crewman named Dixon and to the letter waiting in Chapman's mail. This is X Minus One, broadcast on December 19, 1956, from the Galaxy Science Fiction story by Frank M. Robinson.

A research bunker on the Moon, with the relief rocket landing nearby and Earth orbited by a space station.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
