What happens

Rose Smollett welcomes Dr. Hark Tolen, a six-limbed doctor from the Hawkins planet, into her New York home while he studies Earth. Her husband Drake, a member of the World Security Board, seems unsettled by the visitor's questions about the missing persons bureau and about the inhibition death, a wasting disease that afflicts other worlds. Dr. Tolen's comments on Earthmen's unusual biology leave Rose increasingly puzzled and uneasy about her husband's behavior. This episode of X Minus One aired on December 12, 1956, and is adapted from a story by Isaac Asimov.

A New York City home in the near future, where an extraterrestrial doctor from the Hawkins planet is staying as a guest.

Characters: Rose Smollett, Drake Smollett, Dr. Hark Tolen

Listen for: Dr. Tolen's explanations of what makes Earthmen unique, and Drake's reaction when Rose asks about the inhibition death.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
