What happens

Colonel Windamier leads a military task force to take control of a scientist's laboratory, where Dr. Horn has developed a device that can separate a person's life essence from the body. Horn resents the army's intrusion and refuses to cooperate, while his former associate Van Pelt has already reported the work to the Pentagon. Over the following days the colonel presses Horn for a progress report and begins to grasp what the machine can do. Part of the story is told in this first portion, and it is an episode of X Minus One, a radio science fiction series, first broadcast on 1957-12-12 on NBC, with Edgar Stehli, Walter Black and Dean Harens in the cast.

A secluded laboratory guarded by an army task force, in the present day of the 1950s United States, with a Pentagon connection.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
