What happens
Morniel Mathaway, a self-proclaimed genius painter living in a cramped studio, is visited by a stranger named Glesson who claims to be an art scholar from the year 2487. Glesson explains that he has won a rare trip into the past and has come to meet the artist he most admires. Morniel is thrilled to learn he is considered an immortal figure in art history, and Glesson asks to see his work, which he finds puzzling and far from the masterpieces he expected. The episode is part of the X Minus One series, which first aired on April 17, 1957, and features Leon Janney as Mathaway and Wendell Holmes as Glesson.
A cold, shabby studio in a bohemian village in the present day, later the 25th century's time-travel visitor's world.
Characters: Morniel Mathaway, Glesson, Dave
Listen for: Mathaway's boastful talk about his genius and Glesson's growing unease as he examines the paintings.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
