What happens

Treasury investigator Baumholzer is sent to the planet Deneb 11 after a batch of counterfeit fifty-credit notes turns up with identical serial numbers. The bills pass the electronic beeper plates that authenticate currency, which should make counterfeiting impossible. Baumholzer works through the port city of Glub, where local insects and a resident agent named Holzer help him check beeper plates and search for anyone who might own a matter duplicator. A tall, unusual local man named Munger approaches him in a bar and claims to be the one passing the notes. This is an X Minus One radio drama adaptation of a story by Algis Budrys, first broadcast on October 3, 1956.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
