What happens
Reporter Theremon of the Saros City Chronicle pursues a story about the astronomers at the university observatory, who have predicted that the world will end. On a planet orbiting in a cluster of six suns, Theremon interviews Dr. Aton and later Dr. Sharon, who explain that a total eclipse of Beta is due and that it will bring darkness and madness to a civilization that has always depended on light. Theremon visits a man who survived fifteen minutes in a darkened tunnel, and speaks with cult members and ordinary citizens as the city grows uneasy. The episode is part of the X Minus One series, first broadcast on December 7, 1955, and adapted from the Isaac Asimov story Nightfall.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
