What happens

Lieutenant Jack Palmer, a former member of the Secret Service of the Chinese Republic, tells fellow members of the World Adventurer Club about his three years in China. The story centres on his mission to carry a train loaded with gunpowder, dynamite and shells from Peking to Mukden, which the government needs to keep the key city of Manchuria. Palmer and his newspaper friend Dick Fawcett devise a plan involving Lily Singh, whose father Lee Sen Singh commands the rebel forces. The guide's transcript ends partway through the journey, so the plan's outcome is only partly described.

China during the political and military turmoil of the Chinese Republic, with the Manchurian Limited travelling from Peking to Mukden through rebel-held territory.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
