What happens

Vic and Sade is a daytime radio serial, and this episode, first broadcast on 1942-02-26, has the Gook family putting up a porch swing in the middle of winter. Uncle Fletcher proposes the idea, reasoning that being first on the block to hang one would be a fine thing, even though it is cold outside. Vic and Sade and their household try to hoist the heavy swing onto its hooks, with much fussing over who should climb the railing and who should stand back. Uncle Fletcher keeps offering rambling anecdotes about old acquaintances, and the family repeatedly protests the scheme while the work continues. Bernardine Flynn and Bill Idelson are the lead actors.

The Gook family's front porch and yard in winter, where the family is trying to install a porch swing.

Characters: Vic, Sade, Uncle Fletcher, Rush

Listen for: Uncle Fletcher's repeated suggestion that they put up the swing, and the family's back-and-forth as they hoist it onto the hooks.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
