What happens
Victor Groot, a salesman, is spending a quiet evening at home with his wife, Sade, after his day at the office. He reports a shoe-shopping trip in which a young saleswoman's manner amused him, and he mentions a part-time job he has taken ushering at the Bijou Theater, substituting for Sam Wheelie. Victor soon begins inviting neighbours and acquaintances to be his guests at the theatre, and the plans for the evening grow increasingly involved. The transcript breaks off before the evening's events unfold, so the scheme's outcome is not yet known.
The Groot living room in a small house in Crooper, Illinois, late afternoon, and later the Bijou Theater where Victor is ushering.
Characters: Victor Groot, Sade Groot, Bill Clark, Charlie, Grace, Mr. Fodorman, Martin, Grandma
Listen for: Victor's growing list of guests and the wet alley by the theatre's second exit.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
