What happens
John Digby, a forty-year-old vacationer, spends a summer swimming along the coast at Cape Anne. He meets Sandra Merivel, a young married woman whose husband, Harrison, swims alone at night. Digby begins an affair with her and soon they discuss how to be together. The episode is from The Whistler, a radio mystery series, and was first broadcast on February 4, 1948. The story is told as a dark tale of desire, deception and the sea, and the first part of the episode lays out these relationships and the troubling conversations between John and Sandra.
The Atlantic coast near Cape Anne, Massachusetts, including a beach house, a village and an offshore barge, with later scenes in New York.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
