What happens

Tom Barlow, a taxi driver in the Massachusetts seaport of Marblehead, picks up a muffled stranger who asks to be dropped on a lonely bridge at night. The next morning Tom finds $25,000 in his cab, and the sheriff tells him that if no one claims the money within six months and no body turns up, it will be his. Tom's wife Ellen and daughter Judy are soon caught up in the money, while a man named Ben Barlow, living alone at Guilford Inlet, watches events closely. This episode of The Whistler, broadcast on CBS, centers on how the windfall begins to change the family.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
