What happens

Painter Ralph Winston is struggling to sell his work, and his model and fiancée Marcia is growing impatient with his failures. After Marcia is found dead in his studio, apparently a suicide, the art dealer Sidney Selfton arrives on the scene and offers to promote Ralph's paintings. Ralph accepts his help, and the story follows the dealer's growing control over the painter's life and career. The Whistler series, first broadcast on January 21, 1948, presents this tale of art, ambition and suspicion.

A painter's studio and an art gallery in a city, with a late afternoon start and a following morning.

Characters: Ralph Winston, Marcia, Sidney Selfton, Inspector Sean, Joe

Listen for: Listen for Sidney Selfton's offer to help Ralph and the suspicion he voices about the shot Ralph's gun fired.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
