What happens

Daniel Cobb, the political boss and publisher of the city's largest newspaper, the Star, decides to run for mayor himself after pushing out Mayor Leslie Bryan. Cobb is in love with the mayor's secretary, Patricia Wolkatt, who has made clear she is an ambitious woman. As his campaign runs into trouble, rival Stump Reynolds threatens him, and a scandal involving a woman named Thelma Evans begins to spread. Cobb grows desperate as his position weakens, and his fear of defeat drives his actions in the campaign. The episode is part of the long-running Whistler mystery series.

A city in the American West, with its City Hall, the Star newspaper offices, political clubs and an apartment in the downtown district.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
