What happens
Martin Lang, a young Seattle lawyer, builds his practice by defending Branch Malone, a gambler, and winning acquittals for him. When a state's witness named Fred Williams is lured to a tavern and shot, Martin finds himself caught between Malone's demands and the pressure of the police. Lieutenant Radigan assigns a plainclothes guard to protect him, and his wife Stella presses him to tell the truth. Martin must decide whether to keep defending Malone or to speak against him. The Whistler is a radio mystery series, and this episode aired on August 7, 1949.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
