What happens

Jeffrey Long, owner of a San Francisco Egyptology museum, receives weekly threatening notes from a man claiming to be the brother of Estelle Blair, a former assistant whose death Long may have caused. Long hires private detective Dick Burton to find the brother, and then tries to take his own life with poison. His secretary, Bernice Grant, has secretly replaced the poison with colored water, and she insists she is working to find the brother on Long's behalf. Long comes to suspect that Bernice herself is connected to Estelle, and the story builds toward a confrontation in the museum's basement. The Whistler is a West Coast radio series, and this episode was first broadcast on July 31, 1949.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
