What happens

On a tropical liner, the diminutive scientist Professor Hillary Merrill boards with a shipment of research and is drawn into a conversation with the entertainer Lily Lane. Overhearing a plot to crack the ship's safe, he tries to stay out of the way, but an explosion sinks the vessel and leaves him, Lily, and two seamen, Casey and Andy, stranded on a lonely Pacific island. Tensions rise between the survivors as supplies dwindle and the professor begins to work out a plan of his own. The Whistler series, first broadcast on June 19, 1949, carries this story.

A luxurious liner in the tropical Pacific, and a small deserted island nearby

Characters: Professor Hillary Merrill, Lily Lane, Casey, Andy

Listen for: The professor's careful planning on the island, and the way he sets the two seamen against each other

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
