What happens

Gordon Manning, a real estate broker, goes to his estranged wife Lynn's apartment to plead for a divorce and leaves after an argument. On his way out he collides with a tall, thin man in the hallway, and he fears this stranger can place him at the scene. Later that evening Lynn is discovered dead, apparently the victim of a burglary. Gordon, who has an alibi with his friend Professor Norton, must now worry about the witness who saw him in the hall and tries to keep his secret from the police.

A city apartment building and the surrounding streets in the late 1940s, including Lynn's apartment, Gordon's apartment, and the police headquarters.

Characters: Gordon Manning, Lynn Manning, Jean, Professor Fred Norton, Lieutenant Williams, Mr. Rand, Dr. Roberts, Miss Adams

Listen for: Pay attention to the hallway encounter with the tall, thin man and the way Gordon's chess alibi with Professor Norton is set up.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
