What happens

Claudia Elliott visits her husband Perry's uncle Rodney at Ivy Bridge, where a heated argument over money has left her feeling capable of killing a man. Shortly after midnight her aunt Agatha telephones to report that Rodney is dead. Claudia drives out through the storm to the house, where the household staff, Edmund, is present and the inspector has not yet arrived. Perry gives a confused account of his evening, and Claudia begins to fear what the evidence may show.

Plymouth and Ivy Bridge, England, on a stormy, oppressively hot night in August 1937

Characters: Claudia Elliott, Perry Elliott, Rodney Elliott, Agatha, Edmund, Inspector Dutton

Listen for: Pay attention to the lighter and the length of chain, since both matter to the evidence Claudia is trying to keep track of.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
