What happens
Singer Bill Randall, the most popular vocalist in the country, resents his manager Frank Gordon, who controls forty percent of his earnings under a six-year contract. Randall tells Gordon he wants out, and Gordon refuses. Strained further by his daughter Diana and by a doctor's warning that his voice is failing, Randall talks with his lawyer about breaking the contract and begins to work out a plan to get rid of Gordon and Diana. The Whistler, a radio anthology series, presents this story, first aired September 17, 1945, with Bill Randall as the singer at its center.
Late 1940s Los Angeles area, a radio studio, a highway and back road, and the Gordon house.
Characters: Bill Randall, Frank Gordon, Diana Gordon, Steve, Dorothy King
Listen for: Pay attention to Randall's plan, the timing he works out on the drive, and the phone call Gordon makes.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
